Original Gouache painting on paperboard by well listed Cincinnati, Ohio artist and modernist pioneer Charley Harper, depicting a slug laying eggs. The piece is the original for the illustration on page 24 of the Golden Press' 1968 "The Animal Kingdom - An Introduction to the Major Groups of Animals," by George S Fichter, illustrated by Harper. Removed from its frame, we can see the printing instructions left by Harper. Signed to the lower right. Condition: Good, has some foxing to the paperboard, bleeding through the paint in the top of the image field, more significant in the blank field above the image. Minor wear to the frame.
